I must admit I am hesitant to throw the switch on over 1000 volts without having first tested the waters a bit. I guess while I am using the variac I can use a separate ac supply for the 6au4 filaments so they are warm as another inmate suggested and let the variac control the surge. I will get some higher value fuses after work and give it a try tonight.
