One more thing...

I didn't realize you were using a variac to bring up the entire power supply and amplifier. Bear in mind that the 845s can be damaged if they see significant anode voltage before the heaters are fully warmed. The delay from the 6AU4s normally provides protection against that, but a variac changes everything. It would be better just to throw the big switch than to run the risk of the 845 filaments being under-voltaged. Be sure to keep a meter on the 845 cathodes to monitor their current. Tube damage is unlikely if you watch those meters during warmup and keep one hand on the power switch.
