I really like the Mills wirewounds, unfortunately $4 a pop. Many hate them but I'm also a fan of the much more reasonable PRPs available from Percy or Partsconnexion, not finding them sterile at all (though haven't built an entire amp out yet with them yet.) They've been discussed on this forum, check out past posts and find out if the detractions read to you like strengths too. ;)
