I've not heard a true Williamson and I intend to. I've been living with a constant current cascode fully regulated front end, driving a fully regulated pp KT88 setup for many years. It's the Curcio premium design. It works very well, and with the right passive components, sounds lovely. Particularly in triode mode.

I've got a hankering to build the most simple amplifier and add constant current and/or regulation and see what's what.

As far as the carbon comp resistors go, there is a fair amount of discussion about their tonal characteristics. Some really like them despite the problems. I doubt that they are so bad that no one ought to use them.

I'll report back later.
