Re: Anybody here tried the Velleman or other PC based scopes?

I would avoid PC based scoped for any analog measurment. The commodity PC interior is very hostile with EMI and RFI. The power supply rails are almost impossible to rid of noise. That's why professional audio, video, and measuremnt equipment does the analog to digital conversion outboard and feeds digital signals into the PC which are immune to reasonable EMI/RFI.

I agree with the other posters. EBAY. Tektronix is first class stuff but their circuit designs are also rather complex with lots of DC coupling and not so easy to analyze feedback circuits. That's what makes them so good but also a maintenance headache on a used and unsuproted product. Now if you want a great self taught education in electronic theory just repair a Tek scope power supply! Every voltage is referenced to everything other voltage with no end in sight! Look for Leader, BK, and Heathkit offerings. They are in fcat more reliable than Tektronix though not as well featured or accurate. But hey it's only HiFi audio and they are more than sufficient. Also don't overlook new offerings from Twain or China. Goldstar actyually makes some nice 20mhz scoped that are great for audio work plus have a full warranty.
