Is suspect it's the iron. IIRC they choose not to wind with UL taps.I have heard rebuilt ones which were very impressive. Have an old one in the shop waiting for some time to rebuild. Will likely rob the Iron and rebuild as a power amp with a seperate screen supply.
EL-84 is a much better sounding tube than most will admit.
