The hf81 is one hell of an amp when upgraded..Two rectifiers and a real preamp section along with a good driver and PS for the outputs all equate to a very good amp..I made the mistake of putting in dc filaments because the hum pot was bad and even tho it worked,it rasied the operating temp of the power trans.I did put a replacement pot in from mouser and then I thought Id put in a separate filament transformer and rectify and filter it for the preamp and phono stages only.
