Build ideas for Allen Wright PP-1C Push Pull Power Amp

I have been searching for simple but killer PP schematic and increasingly veering around to the Allen Wright PP1. Schematic linked below. I am a build-by-schematic guy but like to retain some flexibility. Some question before I start to build:

1. The overall gain is 20dB. Is it enough for a direct out from a CDP?
2. Will this design accept other power tubes? 6550, EL84, KT66?
3. What if I don’t like the ECC88? What about a 12AX7?
4. How about UL connection?
5. The Cathode bypass cap is a massive 8,000uf. Why? Is it ok to substitute with a lower value?
6. Can I use individual fixed bias for the output tubes? Is it going to mess up the performance?
7. Finally, if for some reasons I need to apply global NFB, how it should be done.
