HiI experimented extensively with triode-strapped pentodes/tetrodes (KT66, El34, 6V6, 6L6) as drivers for various 300B and 845 SET amps. I'm afraid none of them was as good as a triode (either DHT or IDHT).
I liked the 6V6GT best - it has a wonderful fleshy, vibrant sound. However, compared to a DHT it is coarse and rough.
