if you drive it with a cathode follower and the cathode follower up front kind of buffers the input. But this is not that much of a consideration at audio freqs, it is at 1Mz and above for oscilloscopes. But CFs exhibit slow response to negative going signals. Their fall time is much slower than their rise time. Tektronix would drive the cathode with -125 volts through a big 5 watt, 22k resistor to overcome this. They would dissipate around 3 watts in the resistor alone. Ray
