Hi,
Its called "sniping", and I am guilty of this on occasion myself. Lately, for an original Beatles White album.
At the main auction screen you wait for the auction time to wind down to 1 minute. Click on "bid", then type your highest tolerable bid in, and use your second hand on your watch until maybe 5 seconds are left , then click/place your bid. Will work unless someone wants the item more than you, and has placed a higher bid. Most people are trying to get it at the lowest possible price, and are usually unable to up there bid in time,
Pathetic and I am a little embarassed to admit it, but it works more often than not.
