Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

Better play safe than regret.

Hi.

#20 gauge solid round annealed copper wire can handle up to 2.5A (UL rating). So no problem with its size.

But Teflon tubings come in three wall thickness per UL rating E20344: 200C 600V for standard wall, 300V for thin wall, & 150V for extra thin wall.

Better find out from your tubing vendor what wall thichness & rated voltage. If it is for some 1KV or so HV, I would definitely put it in shrinkable polyolefin tubing as outer jacket ot boost up its HV insulation.

Take an example of Alpha ST-221 1/4" polyolefin tubing, its recovered (shrunk) wall thickness is 0.025". Its dielectric strength is 500V/mil of wall thickness. It should do the job safely for you.
