I think that point will provide lower distortion, tho lower gain? Some claim a better operating point is ~ 130V on the plate & 10mA, which gives you a plate resistance of ~3k5 ohms and longer tube life (no small i$$ue with the 417A); the 10k load would seem about right at that point.Again, take with a grain of salt - others may want to weigh in...
