I tried a braided cat5 (solid core) cable that I made (Three runs braided together), it sounded ok but when my copper foil coax arrived (From England) I preferred the sound of the copper foil/solid core of the coax over the braided cat5. To my ear the cat5 did not seem to sound just right where the copper foil coax sounds great, deeper tighter bass, cleaner extended highs, a step in the right direction for me. So try some copper foil coax if you can find it and I bet you will keep the cat5 cable for your PC.
