I think you need a preamp without gain.
Try bypassing the preamp go from source to amp.
If this is not too low then go for a passive preamp.
If it's really loud then go for a TVC.
If it's about right the resistive would be fine.
If you NEED more tubes just use the CF second stage.
Remove the first stage tube and put a .1uFd cap
from the volume pot to the grid of the second stage.DanL
