Dan:I tried your suggestion and it lowered the volume at maximum attenuation by about half; clearly, I was mistaken in how much excess attenuation there was. Looks like total attenuation of 18 to 24 dB is more like it.
That means I'm back to the original question: is it better to replace one or both of the 6N1P and 6H30 tubes per channel with something else, or should I put a resistor or T-pad at the input or output?
