Hi.To lower the loading of your power iron, why not consider a simple but very efficient solution: a time-adjustable relay.
A NTE timer relay only asks for a few bucks, operable from 12V to 240VAC. Cool running, no heater to power. Of course, it would not look so appealing like a tube relay.
