I've been working on a MM phono stage and have been struggling with a bad hum problem. Last night when I was poking around with a oscilloscope I realized that the probe itself is picking up ~2mVpp signal at 60Hz by just holding it in the air. If I touch the tip of the probe with my finger the signal goes up to ~2Vpp. And I get the same 2V signal if I touch the probe to the carpet I'm standing on. I'm starting to think that this is causing my hum problem. My house is 80 years old so maybe I need to check out the wiring. Has anyone ever seen this before? Thanks,
Dan
