The 3a5 is ok but microphonic. It does not have too much character and just a bit strident but can work with the right tube compliment>.that's spot on. It's OK for microphonics in a diff pair and I use three rubber rings on it. It is just a bit sharp, and not as euphonic as the best globes, but it's a damn fine tube and ridiculously cheap - you can find them for a couple of dollars. they probably out-perform 6SN7s with the right filament supply (current source)
