Hi ,
I know what you mean , the most evil parts are those nasty ferrite-cored inductors and bipolar electrolytics . I've experimented briefly with active crossovers , things like crossover inductors and zobel networks can be taken out , make an easier load and enable better damping . When I was working on my DIY electrostatic panel/cone hybrids , active was the only way to go . That for me is no more , now I'm more into high efficiency speakers and high 'Dunker factor' amps , I just don't have the space for multi amped setupups any more .
