How to Participate in the Audio Asylum Asian Tsunami Victim Support Auction

Want to participate? Glad to hear it! Here's how to do it:

1.) Donors offer items for auction on the Asylum Asian Tsunami Victim Support Auction page, and state the desired recipient of the auction proceeds(i.e., UNICEF, Red Cross, etc.). Donor may leave choice of charity up to the winner, if he so desires.

2.) Bill will contact donor by e-mail and have him complete a donor form. (Can't wait? E-mail Bill: billleebens@yahoo.com.) Bill will then start an auction for the item on Audiogon. A link to the auction will be posted on both the Auction and General pages on the Asylum. (BTW: All Asylum auctions on Audiogon can be viewed by clicking "view other auctions" on any Asylum auction item.)

3.) The winner of the auction pays the donor.

4.) The donor/seller pays the same amount as received from the winner/buyer, to their preferred organization. Donor MAY deduct sales tax (if applicable), packing and shipping cost. Deductibility of donations is left up to the individual participants and their tax-advisors to determine.

5.) A copy of the donation of money to the preferred organization (i.e., UNICEF, Red Cross) is placed in a letter, and is either included in the equipment when shipped, or mailed to the winner. A copy is also mailed or e-mailed to Bill Leebens, so that he can track the proceeds generated by the auction.

6.) When the winner gets the copy of the payment, the winner will post "OK" on the Auction page, below the original post of the donation (http://www.AudioAsylum.com/forums/tsunami/bbs.html).

Practical notes:

1.) ANYONE can donate! Inmates, non-inmates, audiophiles, music-lovers and companies from the whole world. PLEASE join in!

2.) Many from outside the US would like to buy, due to favorable exchange rates. All are welcomed, but PLEASE keep local tariffs and duties in mind, and make sure your shipment will be insured.

3.) Even small items are welcome: just $5 US pays for a health kit for 3 months.

4.) Companies often have obsolete test equipment, tools and used parts for prototypes. Many DIY people would love to buy these dust-collecting items at this auction. Clean out those storerooms, workshops and attics! Write it off!

5.) If you are donating a vintage or used item, please be very frank about its condition. We want to create brotherhood, not dissension.

6.) When shipping: DO insure the item no matter which mode of shipping you use, and PLEASE pack the item as though you expect it to be dropped 20 feet off a conveyor-belt. Bill worked for a major shipper for 17 years--believe us, it could happen! ;-)

Have fun, and let's all do what we can for this worthwhile cause!
