I do a lot of live recording of primarily un-amplified instruments and vocals (jazz, bluegrass etc) and I usually use tube condenser or ribbon mikes but those are all out of your price range. I've had good results with some of the Sony stereo condenser mikes such as the ECM-MS957 which lists for about $175 but can be found cheaper or better yet a Rode NT4 for about $200 but its 200 ohm.. If you can't use a stereo mike setup for your use Audio Technica and AKG make several cheapy condenser mikes well within your price range. Most of the cheapy condenser mikes are chinese made and some are not bad for the money. You might be able to find a pair of APEX Chinese condenser mikes in that range.Dave
