The DD-VR7 is a circa 1983-1984 model. Second from TOL JVC. It was the highest line auto reverse. It used JVC quick reverse sensor and has nice Sen Alloy R/P head. Direct drive motor gives it good speed stability. It should give you very respectable record and playback performance. It will have very deep bass extension, SA heads do that. Highs will be powerful and clean if not truly far out wide. It begins to taper off about 17KHZ using either metal or chrome tape. It has an excellent record meter with the digital peak indicator. No other decks on the market back in the day were any better than this vintage series JVC decks IMO. It may not offer fine bias or sensitivity adjustments but if you feed it a Maxell XL-II or TDK SA tape for high bias and a TDK D or Maxell UR tape for normal bias you will get good sound. Almost any brand Metal tape will be great too.

All in all a nice vintage two head deck.
