After hearing about people here having decks down for extended periods of time, I ended up picking up a Sony R2R for a back up. Also because it plays 3.3/4 which my main deck does not and I buy a lot of prerecorded tapes, many of which are the slower speed ( though not if I can help it). On that note, be careful with Ebay tapes. I have only found a few sellers who sems to have good stuff all the time. About one of every 10 I buy is junk, splices, mold etc-and most are 'as is' sellers, so I'm stuck with it. As far as blank tape goes, I use Quantagy, though since they are going out of the tape biz, I'm not sure what I will switch to
