Otari MX5050 BII 2 questions

I'm new on this list and I'm looking for somebody with some technical knowledge about the Otari MX5050 BII 2.
My machine has suddenly lost all tension on the supply reel. It still works, but it's hard to thread because the supply reel turns freely. No tension at all. (Obviously, the brake isn't working!) Once you finally get it threaded, you can turn the supply reel backwards to provide tension and then hold it while you hit the "play" button. Then it plays just fine. But, when the tape runs out, the supply reel spins forever. Fast Forward spills tape everywhere when you hit Stop unless you reach up and grab the supply reel.
