Baking the squeal away?

I'm transferring a bunch of 1970's-vintage Radio Shack reel-reel tapes to the computer. Most are going fine, but I have three that squeal -- they make a rhythmic squeak on playback, and for some reason the squeak is audible in the digitized file.

So I'm searching here and I come across tape-baking, though it mainly seems to be recommended for shedding, which is not a problem with most of the tapes I'm dealing with. What do you think?

If I should bake, the next question would be whether I can do it without buying a convection oven. I have a normal electric oven whose lowest temperature is 170, which seems to be too hot. Are there any other expedients?
