Great post Charles! I've come to think about r2r the same way I do my vinyl rig. Transport=turntable, heads=cartidge/arm, and playback electronics=phono stage. And the weak link is,.. er, the weak link. Nice to have someone with technical knowledge to keep us from getting too wild in our theories and wishful thinking. I've learned allot from you and Ray Hughes' posts here and would like to throw out a thanks and happy holidays to everybody here on the Tape Trail!
BTW I scored some really nice 2 track Mercury's that I'm planning to listen to this weekend with a bit of brandy.
