I'm not an audiophile... but er, quite possibly an audiophool :-)R2R-musicality is in the deck to tape set-up and not the 'brand'.
I presently have two R2R's; a Revox B77 MKII and a Studer A807 - both 1/4 inch 2 track machines.
Musically the humble, old B77 out-performs the best of cassette decks. The standard Studer A807 is a reference point for build quality, transport handling and micro-processor/interface control and sound quality.
I am also an avid vinyl fan, but when it comes to the final fronteer for analogue, I believe this was the reel reel deck and not the record player.
