Re: Denon cassette's vs TDK or Maxell?

Hi John (in Spain)

Denon (Nippon Columbia) and wholly owned subsidiary of Sanyo Corporation was indeed a full origination manaufacturer of magnetic tape, so I'm afraid you're not correct there.

To rank them with Sony is fine - Sony also plays second fiddle to no-one!! Neither does Fuji Magnetics.

You must remember that TDK (Tokyo Denki) and Maxell (Hitachi-Maxell/Makesura) ploughed much more into marketing expenditure than their competitors. They were top flight products too - but market acceptance is only partly about product quality.

I do however agree that BASF make excellent tape and cassettes.

Another thing to point out is that, like hardware manufacturers, media manufacturers had "goodies" and "disappointments" in their ranges over the years, and to paint an entire brand with a meritorious epithet of quality (or lack of it)is neither true nor fair.

Kind regards,

Marc
