Re: Sucsess recording vinyl to reel to reel!

Hello, Rob,

I have been doing this for about 37 years.

Scott LC-21 pre

Scott LK-150 power

EMPIRE 398 TT w/Pickering XV15- MM cart

MAGNECORD 1024 Reel to Reel.

I have a bunch that was put on tape from vinyl back in 1970 using BASF 1 mil. tape and recorded at 3-3/4 IPS and I swear that even to this day it still plays like original!

And this is after maybe several hundred plays over the years!

I recently played the original vinyl on the original EMPIRE 398 but now fitted with a new SHURE M97XE cartridge, same amp's and speakers, University Classic Dual 12's and I am here to say the original tape has lost nothing.

Give serious consideration to the Magnecord!! They were primarily used for studio applications and are industrial grade quality. On occasion one will show up on E bay. I have bought four of them in the last two years and each one works flawlessly. The MAGGIE has a superb preamp section.

Another option would be a Magnecord 728, or 748, or a 1048. These use 10.5 reels and the amp section is TUBES! Again industrial grade!

They are also serviceable if needed.

Regards,

Darrell
