Re: Rare Kenwood deck

Hi,

Well, about the settings.
• Put in some new, god quality tape
• Set TAPE and BIAS EQUALIZER switches to proper position (NORMAL/CROM/METAL)
• Set DOLBY NR to OFF
• Set MONITOR switch to TAPE position
• Press 400 Hz button
• Press REC and PLAY buttons, so the tape starts recording test signal.

Now, set the MONITOR switch for a short back to SOURCE position, and observe FL-meters
and Led-graph displays, they will show like on picture I posted before.
For a proper recording adjustment, you should get the same readings with MONITOR on TAPE. To achieve that, just adjust REC-CAL and BIAS-ADJ knobs, they are each other dependent.
You can repeat this also with 10 kHZ oscillator, it will give you better adjustment on higher frequencies.
If you are not able to get the readings just right, than there is something wrong with tape or deck,
Like magnetized heads or similar.

Double Dolby means that deck uses separate Dolby circuits for recording (Input) and Playback
(Output) amplifiers. Filter stands for standard MPX filter; you do not need to use it, unless you record from tuner.
Well, pinch roller on my deck was eccentric; I tried everything from brushing to polishing, still measured too much wow-flutter. Finally, I replaced it with the one I took from newer Technics / spare parts deck, fitted perfectly.

Woow, a lot of typing in English. Funny for two guys from former YU…???

Regards, Davorin
