Hi, Martin:

If the XLR's on your ReVox are up to international standards, then pin 2 would be "hot" and pin 1 would be shield (ground) with pin 3 the negative. So, from your description, I'd guess that your deck is not compatible with current XLR wiring as far as microphones might be concerned.

I recommend that you contact whoever is doing service on ReVox decks!

(I know that as concerns early US-made pro gear, such as the tube-based Ampex decks, they were wired with pin 3 as "hot".)
