Home Tape Trail

Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

Re: I own...

I have owned a lot of cassette machines over the years. At present I have a Nak CR-7e and DR-2, a Sony Walkman Professional WM-D6C and 3 other machines, 2 of them double recorders for copying speech tapes. I also have a CD recorder, the Pioneer PD-609. For copying CDs I would expect the CD recorder to give the best copies, as they are basically clones; for analogue copies the CR-7 is the best (and also gives the best playback overall, comparable with my Linn Sondek). However, I don't think even the Nak beats the old Sony TC-399 reel to reel I had for a short time until I had to sell it on becoming a property owner many years ago!

I also had a Sony TC-K81 until recently and it replayed tapes from the DR-2 so well I could not tell the difference! The WM-D6C also plays tapes made on the CR-7 very well, so the Nak equalisation is not always a problem.
