I have found that over the years the grease they used on the pinch roller assembly mechanism tends to dry out and then it will not move freely. The solenoid cannot overcome the drag of the old grease. If you are handy you can easily disassemble the mechanism, clean and relube, and you will be good as new. Be very careful with disassembly and reassembly, there are small washers and circlips that easily fly off or fall into where they are not supposed to be. Look very carefully as you disassemble.

I make this sound far harder than it really is. Go for it!
