Brings back memories.
I remember an assignment: In order to be qualified as a tape op you had to make some 20 or so splice edits to a song of your choice. If I recall correctly, you had to cut down a 3 minute song to about half that time.
If the instructor was able to "hear" more than 3 of them, you'd have to do it all over again.
But back then one had to do a complete alignment of a 24 track, in less than 40 minutes. Those were different times.
