Onkyo TA-2060 recording problem

Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

Cassette deck plays perfectly but recording is bad. Left channel will record only when set to maximum and quality of sound is bad during the recording. It looks like problem is with input signal and not head. Even when not recording input signal has a lot of distortion. Any tips?
