Sounds like the tape B has lost some of it's lubricant or it's lubricant has migrated due to storage position and conditions. Tape without lubricant is very abrasive. It happened to me once with a roll of Radio Shack tape but not with a roll of Scotch or Agfa or Basf. Ray
