The number of tapes that you can buy at Ebay probably will be enough to serve your recording purpose because I used to buy a lot of TYPE-IV tapes in Ebay in the past and I recently stop doing that anymore as there is too many raw tapes in my house that I know I will never be able to consume them. In this case I see no reason for those OEMs to reopen their assembly lines which definitely will lose more money than making a profit.
For example if Maxell doing to reopen the VERTEX line as well as TDK reopen the MA-R or MA-XG how much they need to charge the consumer for each? Maybe twenty or thirty dollars a piece and how many they need to sell to make a decent profit?
As long as there is Ebay there will still be NOS tapes somewhere with the number that will satisfy most die-hard analog tape lovers.
Have a Good Day,
Mike
