Yashu,
I love the passion in your post. It was a nice read.
What is interesting is that magnetic tape is being produced today especially for studio mastering on reel to reel decks including digital recorders so the formulations must be similar to what is used in cassettes. I'm confident (but not an expert on blank tape manufacturing) that tape makers can just cut these tapes down to cassette size and re-offer higher quality alternative even if they are more costly to buy and of a much smaller market demographics. I'm certain many of us who enjoy using tapes will pay a modest amount more above the price of the few choices we have today. Look at what some NOS tapes especially Type IV sell for on eBay?
There is a market for blank tape makers to fill. It will not be a huge profit maker but hey in these down economic times if you are in the business of blank tape manufacturing, having any new customers who may throw few extra $$$ at you can't be all that bad.
