About the excessive "processing"........
I'm listening to my 3rd commercial reel to reel tape ever, Living Stereo Fritz Reiner doing Beethoven’s 5th @ 7.5 IPS. I have this same release on redbook cd and just sync'd the 2 of them up.
The ONLY advantage I would give the cd is that it has much less tape hiss. But there is a tradeoff for that......BY COMPARISON, the cd version sounds like the symphony is playing under water!!! The life has been completely soaked out of it. That's because they processed the shi$ out of it to get rid of the tape hiss I'm guessing! The reel sounds much more dynamic, open, detailed and life-like. Just more hiss...
Score so far is reel to reel 2 and everything else 0!
