Crackles when turning the pot are caused by dirt on the carbon track and are amenable to cleaning with a switch-cleaner solvent.
Complete loss of sound indicates that the trach is broken or falling apart.
Cure is to replace the pot. It is probably a dual 10K log, but you will need to check on that. All volume type pots have similar connections, depending on whether it is wired or connects directly to the pcb.
