Electronic Crossovers

Hello, all!

I run a Pioneer SPEC-1 preamp and two SPEC-4 power amps...or, I WANT to...to power two sets of speakers: Maggie SMGs and HPM 1500s. I want to run each pair on a separate amp off of the SPEC-1 so as not to drive 4 speakers off each amp (each -4 is set up for 1 pair of speakers, but the SPEC-1 allows 4 speakers to be hooked up with the -4 powering them all.)

My question is this: How do I separate the amps for each pair of speakers off of the preamp? I COULD just "Y" them from the outputs on the preamp, but that's cheesy and wouldn't provide any kind of balance. With one amp per pair of speakers, I could set the output of each where they would sound best in my environment, but I want to make sure both power amps are being driven equally, hence the electronic crossover question.

I was looking at a "Pioneer D-23 Electronic Crossover ", of the SPEC-model days, but they're set up for hooking up amps via frequency, which is NOT what I want.

So, what do I do? As you can tell, I'm a "non-techie" audiophile as far as this goes...call it my education!

Thanks!

Chuck
