Re: Automatic URL parsing in message body

I tried that in the past and couldn't get a reliable routine that would work all the time. It's ok if there's one reference like this:

http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/support/messages/802.html

But then if someone types just www.audioasylum.com, you need to do something different. This get's even more complicated if they do the first and the second and then add yet another url, http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/support/messages/802.html, to the message. Making matters worse is if they happen to actually encode one or two other urls in the message, Go here. Then you have to check to see that it's right and whether it's entered as:

A HREF= or a href = or a href=url or a href = "url".

The point being that is gets nasty and you really have to parse the entire message word by word with tons of conditionals and even then, it's highly likely that it will do strange things from time to time.
