The Shrimp uses a pretty good volume contol... while a good stepped attentuator will be better, don't know if there is enough room to fit a good stepped unit in the shrimp. I wouldn't removed the balance control... I don't know its implimentation, but at center it may not be in the signal path...if it is directly in the signal path, it could proabably be easily bypassed. I wouldn't do either mod though as I would want to keep my 3 year warrantee intact! :-)
