What scammers can steal from knowing our Paypal Email address?

Lately I got a number of responses to my sale ads. Most of them offered me more than I asked for or a relatively good amount that was not agreed upon. Things in Common: ship the item to his/her relative or friend somewhere different from where he/she was as claimed, and asked me for my Paypal account.

Everything sounds too good to be true! I contacted Paypal and was advised to forward these kind of emails to spoof@paypal.com and delet these kind of mails, so I did. But strangely, I got replies from Paypal saying that they can't help/answer ....or something. OK, that's another story.

My question, as I asked Paypal customer service:
What these scammers can do by knowing our Paypal email address(=account)?
