My experience with H-CAT

Dear Inmates,

This story is about my horrible experience with Roger Paul who
manufactured H-CAT preamplifier. I am very frustrated.
My name is Surja Sutantio from Indonesia. My company Audio Society is
currently listed in H-CAT website under dealer list.

Being an audiophile and audio distributor myself I am always curious for
gears that have very good reviews. Underground forum such as Audio Asylum
and AudiogoN have many discussions about this preamp. Start from TAS and
it begin very popular by â€œNormâ€ and others who give very positive reviews
of the preamp.

I continue to follow the controversy in Audio Asylum and decide to give it
a try myself, so I contacted H-CAT and place a sample order with payment
in front. It takes about 4 months to wait when I got the first preamp from
Roger. I do like the sound of the H-CAT preamp; it has very good
transparency, focus and soundstaging.

During the first 2-3 weeks after I got the preamp, Roger is actually very
curious and responsive. He even call my mobile several times,and we talked
a lot. The product and the responsiveness is enough to convinced me that I
decided to promote them in my country. So I talked to Roger about ordering
another 2 pcs of preamp for stock and transfer $4200 right away in April
2007.

What a terrible mistakes!!! right until this moment I never got the preamp
that he promised. The preamp that I got also have problem with noise.
Roger keep promising start from 2 weeks when he say will be deliver after
he got the payment, and then a month, two months, threee months ,
all kinds of reason...mostly financial ...and then including his wife has
cancer last year (I donâ€™t know if its true) but it did make me soft a
little bit and I hope he still thinking right... but what do I get?...nothing off
course! What makes me so mad with Roger is he continue to support
others and also introducing some more updates, new versions of the
preamp and recently poweramp! but he never ship anything to me nor
email no nothing. Absolutely crooked.

The last promise he email me right after RMAF2008 show he will get the
preamp to me.. I know already that he wonâ€™t be delivering but I wait
myself for another several months until year 2008 ended, hoping that he
will make positive change but he didnâ€™t. He wont answering his phone
as now being answered by machines.

What can I say? I canâ€™t believe this man is so bad..I have trusted him
and waited for 1 year and 10 months. I just donâ€™t care about the
money now and just want to spread the agony so audiophile community will
learn from my experience...Never trust a product, a company, a person who
you are not so sure about its estabishment. Hopefully can be useful for
anybody at least not to become a victim like me.
