Counterfeit Postal Money Orders

In today's mail I received two US Postal Money Orders for $950 each. They had been mailed from Canada. The office code indicated they were purchased in New York. There was no return address on the envelope. The sender information, on the money orders, was from a person with a Sacramento address. There was nothing else in the envelope explaining the purpose for the money orders. I haven't sold anything recently for
$1900.00. I wasn't expecting any money orders. They did not look right. The paper quality, watermarks and security flags looked off. I took them to my local post office. They confirmed they were fake and forwarded them on to the Postal Inspector for investigation. Anyone have any idea as to just what the scammer was trying to do?
