Don't know why, but there are a lot of scammers out there that don't use spell check.

Other tip-offs in general:

As Chris points out, they use a generic greeting instead of addressing you by name.

They give you a link to send personal info - if you look at both PayPal and eBay they specifically state in their policies that they will NEVER ask you for credit card info, bank info, etc. in an e-mail.

If in doubt, you can always forward the e-mail to spoof@ebay.com, and they will get back to you, usually later the same day, with an e-mail saying it did not come from eBay.
