When I was fairly new to eBay, I won an auction for a CBS Mastersound gold CD ... can't remember the title. I was elated to win it for the opening bid of only a couple of bucks (can't remember the exact amount, but not important). The guy contacted me with a story about how his two-year-old had gotten hold of it and scratched the previously mint condition CD VERY badly. I was still welcome to it, but I had to expect the worst.
I declined the deal, knowing that it was likely a lie; but also knowing that if I had accepted it, that he would have scratched the hell out of it before he shipped it. Glad I got the chance to get this off my chest. I can't imagine how else I could have responded. I am SURE that he KNEW that I would decline ... and he likely didn't even have a two-year-old. Good scam though! Mike.
