"TKO NOTICE: eBay Listing(s) Removed", just a few days ago. The cancelled message showed up less than an hour after I bid on a ~$100 "buy it now auction" from a seller with good feedback, etc. It was like my bid triggered the ebay bot to notice that the account was hijacked. Unfortunately I had already paid with Paypal. Fortunately, it was under $100. Then I get a message - take it up with Paypal, i.e., file a claim. Thanks a lot. Then, about three weeks ago on a previous ebay auction, I get a destroyed package from FEDEX with one item missing and one item damaged - cause: foolishly incompetent packing. There was supposedly FEDEX insurance and Paypal insurance. The seller refused to take a return and deal with FEDEX herself so I returned the package for investigation by FEDEX and filed a Paypal claim - they send me an email telling me to take the item to repair service and get a written repair estimate AND to get a police theft report! DAMMIT - they obviously didnt even read the claim correspondence. Some protection. This one is still in limbo.
AND THEN - I had been watching another "buy it now auction". It sold so I checked the seller's list for other similar items. One came up and I clicked to buy it now, just now, today. On the next screen I get a Netscape popup saying the the site certificate was not recognized. I dont recall clicking the confirm button but the item is now in my "pay seller" bin. I will contact this seller for bonifides before taking a chance on getting chumped again.
For me, after almost 90 good deals over 7 years, ebay security has suddenly gone to shit. I am now reluctant to bid on anything over $100.
